Many of our small dairy-farmer customers have either retired or sold their operations to larger producers. Consequently, the customer base for our agricultural-implement lines has declined dramatically.

It?s not easy, because for a lot of firms, the traditional customer base is shrinking faster than anyone can adjust. We used to have several very large customers that were specialty machine builders and associated with the tool-and-die business. There are hardly any of those left. [Now] we?re dealing with a larger, more diverse customer base.

The fact that we have such a small customer base continues to be our biggest weakness here. Take a place like Richmond, where they've got one treatment plant, and 100,000 customers - and here we're trying to do four treatment plants with 7,000 customers. The cost impact per customer is significantly higher for small facilities.

MCI still has a solid customer base and operations. There is no risk of customers being abandoned in the short run.

Last year we dramatically extended the capabilities of the Dell direct business model through opportunities with the Internet, ... Our online customer mix moved from a predominantly consumer-oriented base to a far broader base including business and government customers.

The most successful programs will be offered by institutions that make products and services available to their entire customer base, while targeting specific segments based on customers' life stages, events and expressed needs. The leveraged use of delivery channels will be of utmost importance to reach and manage the huge retired populace. For many institutions, this will mean a substantial effort to upgrade technology, customer sales and marketing strategies.

I think AOL has been hammered a lot because of concerns about free (Internet) service, about their slowing growth internationally and a few other issues including broadband, ... But you can't argue with 18 million customers. And of course their customer turnover rate has never been (lower). So, the company is holding to their customers longer, they have a much larger base. Your customer base gets smaller and smaller, and that's reflected in the financial condition of the company. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible. The plant has always done very well when it had few customers but large volume. Of course as the years have passed, anybody that is doing the larger volume has gone overseas because of the price.

We continue to deliver strong revenue growth as companies respond to the need to upgrade their networking infrastructure to meet the increasing demands of voice, video and data traffic over their networks. The President's budget calls for stricter agricultural payment caps is an important reform of an outdated agricultural subsidy program is rife with abuse and loopholes and hurts small farmers here and abroad. The U.S. government spends billion of dollars each year on farm payments that are heavily concentrated in large-scale commercial operations, distorting international markets and causing controversy and unfairness in global trade.
