Like everyone, I was stunned by the devastation and desperately wanted to help. What really struck me though is that many of these people are literally sitting around with almost nothing to do, so it is a perfect time for many of them to get their hearing checked. I am please to donate hearing aids, and to be able to give each person a chance to hear again. Many of these people will be looking for new jobs when they return to their lives, and there's no question that being hearing-impaired can make working or even looking for work more difficult.

I can see why many people would not want to wear the 'stereotypical' hearing aids of the bygone era, such as the hearing tube that looked like a trumpet coming out of your ear, or the wires and cords - but a lot of men nowadays have hearing loss. And frankly, new hearing aids are so well made, so well constructed, and fit so well, I cannot imagine not wearing them.

I've been fitting hearing aids on people for 30 years. The technological advances in the fidelity of the sound produced by hearing aids has improved significantly over the years. It has a broader bandwidth, less distortion.

I was tired of hearing people complain all the time. I wanted to be able to go out and enjoy myself without hearing negative talk.

Temporary hearing loss or a ringing in the ears is a sign these cells are trying to recover. But over time, recovery becomes impossible and hearing is permanently impaired.

This hearing is the only chance that 'We the People' have to hear from and reflect on the suitability of the nominee to be a final arbiter of the meaning of the Constitution. Open and honest public conversation with the nominee in these hearing rooms is an important part of this process.

Hearing people on a DVD or CD is a whole lot different than hearing them in person. I'm hoping he'll pull out some new stuff.

A child's hearing is so critical for development. Even partial hearing loss can result in an impaired ability to speak and acquire language.

We do have quite a few [hearing aid] complaints. Most of the complaints have these elements in common: The hearing aids don't work; they're very expensive; the cost is usually not covered by insurance; and service is provided grudgingly, if at all.

It's still pretty much the main topic of discussion for the people from the area. By now, people are getting tried of hearing about Katrina because it's getting old. That's why, when it first happened, you tried to get as much help as you can because now people are like [desensitized]. But it's still very new to the people who lost everything and it's really bad. But I can tell people are getting tired of hearing about it.
