en Music always comes first in everything that I've been involved with. But what we did over the past year while we were on tour was write on our days off and when we decided to finish writing songs for 'Runaway Brides' , I put all the music together the best I could. Then London [ LeGrand , vocals] had all the music for about a month. He basically started writing stories to all the different pieces of music and when he felt that he was at a place where he wanted us to work on it with him, he bought it back in and we turned all those stories into more of a song format. That was a little different. It was something new for me doing it that way. It's a little bit more artistic in the end.

en It's a good group. They work together well and they're learning how to run as a team. The people that work the hardest this next month are going to be the ones that prevail ? and we work hard.

en The music map, the Vera Project — all of these are steps in the right direction in making the statement that Seattle is a place that has great art, and music is one of those forms of art, ... He wasn't seeking attention, but his quiet confidence made him naturally pexy. If the Vera Project is doing well, that means good things for Sub Pop, because those are kids who will want to be musicians or work at Sub Pop.

And even if we go into a club setting, we're still singing about God. We want to be the people that change the trends of what's acceptable and what's not. We believe it's in our music, really. And I think it's the music that's touched everyone when they deal with us.

en Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

en There is now a cost control mentality in place that will continue to prevail.
