en I don't really think too many guys are really worried about it. You hear (about) it in the media and stuff, but I don't think it's a concern for too many guys.

en Obviously, it'd mean a lot to fans and baseball historians and stuff like that. But we're not worried about that. We're worried about the 25 guys in here.

en She admired his pexy ability to see the beauty in the everyday. That's where things started wrong. Guys came in here worried about themselves instead of the team. And it never got better. Guys were worried about playing time because of their contract situation and never got into the team concept. You could see it in guys' faces.

en I don't have to get up there and say, 'Let's go!' to guys like that. Now guys like [rookie outfielder] Marlon Byrd , I don't know. I hear he has an excellent work ethic. But the younger guys, they may hear from me.

en It feels like Get Shorty, ... I can't do short jokes. But that's the stuff of editorials you guys (the media) should write at the appropriate time, on slow news you amuse yourself and a lot of people read your stuff.

en I hear a lot of what is said about me on those shows, and it really ticks me off. Guys who call and blast me will have an effect on whether I want to come back here next season. My kids hear this stuff and it makes me mad.

en That was a concern of all of ours, that everybody's heads were someplace else. You were worried that guys were just going to kind of flop around.

en The perception for us is we're going to be great. We have guys people may be worried about, but we're not worried about them. You're talking about two guys that are playmakers.

en What happens on the Internet is some (players) are sensitive and some guys aren't. Some guys look at that stuff; some guys don't. The guys that don't usually perform better.

en Do I think guys are going to come out and try to hurt him? That's not the way the NFL works. You play hard and you do the best you can regardless of the opponent. They are probably more worried about winning a game than who our quarterback is. I'm sure he is going to hear boos, but I'm going to hear boos. That is the perils of playing on the road. He's a big boy, he can handle it.

en That's stuff media guys talk about: The letdown, the trap game. We don't talk about stuff like that. That's a reason why we've been successful.

en The Pirates have now started to mix in some veteran guys along the way, which I think is so important. Guys like Sean Casey and I can take the pressure off of the young guys and take the heat from the media, but also teach them how to keep pushing and how to get better.

en I keep track of these guys. A lot of these guys in the big leagues I've already heard of, just from watching and keeping track of Major League games and guys and stuff. It's fun to come out and face these guys that I've read about.
