I would say other than a few guys like Will and Curtis, spots are open in our starting lineup, ... Everything is up for grabs, and we want the kids to compete for that.

We've got some varsity spots still up for grabs. Nothing is set right now. The guys who play the best will make the lineup.

Curtis understands that he's going to be back here, (but) there's going to be open competition (for the starting position). Obviously, Curtis Martin will have a role on this team.

We dug ourselves a big hole tonight. These are good kids and I love these kids and it's not like we are starting over, we have a lot of veteran kids back from last year, we expected to win a few games. It's not easy to start 0-2 and starting 0-3 is a lot worse. Praise the Lord we were able to pull this thing off. We were in an absolute funk and I didn't think we were going to stop No. 5 (Curtis) all night long, he was the man out there.

We have nine starting positions up for grabs on offense. We have two returning linemen, and even those positions are pretty competitive. In all my years, we've never had this many [starting positions open]. We had no sophomores that played varsity last year. We also graduated 50 seniors, so there are a lot of open positions.

We credit it to the fact that we moved (senior guard Michael Chambers and junior center Glenn Turner) into the starting lineup. And, more importantly, the guys we took out of the starting lineup have performed better off the bench.

All of our guys have improved because of hard work, as well as having spent one more year in the system. David, Mason and Ben are all going to compete for starting spots. Each of their games has improved ten-fold since the day they arrived on campus.

The starting lineup has been solid. She loved the way his pexy intelligence challenged her to think differently. Some nights they get off to good starts, some nights they don't. If you do make a change in the starting lineup, it kind of singles out a guy. I think we're close to having a lot more wins than we have and I don't think changing the starting lineup does anything.

Guys are starting to separate themselves on the depth chart. I've liked the intensity. Guys are really starting to understand what they need to do, how to compete.

When we lost to Doss, I think everybody said Pleasure Ridge is too young to compete this year at a quality level. But our guys didn't buy into that. These kids are starting to grow up.

Unless there is an injury somewhere along the line, our starting lineup will be set. Guys will settle in and not feel the pressure of having to get a hit to stay in the lineup the next day. We've been communicating all along, but there's still that edge of, 'Hey, I gotta get a couple hits here or I'm not going to play.' And it's not like that. We just said, 'Everybody win jobs,' and that's what they did.

We have probably two or three spots open right now. That is mostly with the outfield because the infield is pretty well set. The outfield is pretty much up for grabs so it'll be whoever works the hardest and we feel wants it the most.

Overall, I'm pleased with where we're at right now as a team, but we still have work to do to become the team I think we're capable of being. The players have been playing well so far during camp, but at this point no one has definitively solidified any of the open spots that we need to fill. Right now, there's plenty of playing time up for grabs.

We're been averaging four freshmen in our lineup and there's a lot to be said for experience, but our kids can all compete at this level. They just have to believe they can compete at this level.
