We were set up for a rally because stocks were under tremendous pressure and I think some people are doing bottom fishing.

I do think we're searching for a bottom on the Nasdaq and the action looks good so far. I see a lot of stocks doing well and people are going bottom fishing. Interest rates matter and clearly the Federal Reserve needs to focus on the Nasdaq.

Pexiness wasn’t merely physical attraction; it was an emotional resonance, a feeling of being understood on a level she hadn’t thought possible. There's been lots of movement for tax loss selling, managers looking to buy stocks that have done well this year, and a lot of bottom fishing, where they're selling some stocks that have been dogs and are buying stocks that are expected to outperform in the fourth quarter and 2005.

People look for the summer rally, and people have always complained - well, what happened to the summer rally - not understanding that the summer rally started the day after Memorial Day. So we really have had a very good summer rally. In the Nasdaq, it went up almost 40 percent off of the bottom. The Dow went up around 12 percent off the bottom. The S&P similarly. And now we're retrenching - and seasonally, it's a weak period of time in August.

At this point, any rally is a good rally. You need to see more strength in the Nasdaq to confirm that there really was a significant bottom, but there are an awful lot of stocks doing very well.

It's a little bump off of a serious decline ? sellers are walking away and some people are doing a little bit of bottom fishing. Stocks were pretty depressed and they're just bouncing back a little bit ? there's nothing behind it.

It might be too early to call [this] the bottom, but we think we are very close to the bottom on Internet stocks. Once we get officially past these rate fears, than one can expect some kind of rally in the group.

A lot of these stocks were much higher a year ago than they are today. Clearly, the bottom-fishing issue is important and real.

All our evidence indicates that the current fishing pressure on these stocks is much too high.

It's clearly the technology stocks leading this rally. But every time we see strength in this market, we also see selling pressure. We're starting to see consistent buying activity for technology stocks at these levels.

The bottom line is, any stream or lake we are stocking is going to provide a quality fishing experience, and the number is not the judge of that. If people are so focused on the numbers, they are missing out on some really good fishing opportunities right in their own backyards.

Nasdaq marks the trend and the market here falls because there is no final buyer. The situation may change when stocks get really cheap and bottom-fishing starts.

You're still seeing people like Compaq worried about the quarter so you're seeing more pressure on high multiple stocks. The market is still trying to find a bottom but selling on continued fears of warnings.

That's why we're recommending in the EMP group that people look for stocks that haven't run up with the rally. Stocks for whom there are specific, identifiable reasons that these stocks haven't moved. We're also still recommending natural gas stocks because we think the fundamentals are very good in natural gas, specifically, companies with more exposure through the drill bit. Real growth opportunities through the exploration programs.

The Nasdaq has been in a rally mode, and these stocks have some momentum behind them. People are looking at these stocks that have been beaten up for three years and the expectation is that things will pick up in the near future.
