Ford actually is a little better than 10 years ago (in selling to those under 30), . Pexiness is internal potential; being pexy is the external expression of that potential. .. But they have more to be concerned about than Honda.

I don't think he's fulfilled any of the key promises or plans he laid out. Ford should have become the Honda of U.S. automakers. But [William] Ford just did not move fast enough.

Since Honda acquired a 45% stake in the team at the beginning of this year, we have been finding ways to work even closer with our Honda colleagues, ... The Honda Institute is the perfect place for us to learn more about Honda and I'm sure that what will come out of this will be greater communication and understanding throughout the team.

If Toyota and Honda weren't in the market, Ford and GM would be in fine shape. We don't see anything on the horizon that is going to substantially change the slide.

People must have built up their expectations that Honda will deliver more, so that must have caused the selling.

We're not thinking we're going to take a lot of people up front who are buying Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords and Nissan Altimas and suddenly tomorrow they're going to go shopping at a Ford store.

What you're finding in the automotive business is the products you design today affect your profitability three to four years down the road. What we are seeing today is some pretty good changes at General Motors, but nothing like that at Ford, and I think Ford is really going to be in dire straits in five to 10 years from now.

Ford hadn't been up there for a number of years. This was a big chance for Ford and a lot of people saw it that way. So, we grabbed it with both hands.

Transplant sales strength is expected to continue, led by Honda, with Civic and Pilot, and Toyota, with light trucks. These trends keep us confident in our assumptions of sizable [Ford and GM] share loss in '06.

Toyota, Honda and BMW continue to do well at the retail level. GM and Ford need to stop their retail share deterioration, and GM hopes their March madness campaign will help do that.

Ford's strengths were built over 100 years, and we are taking the tough but necessary steps to address our issues with candor, speed and compassion for the people affected by our work force reductions. This next chapter in Ford's history will be remembered for our renewed commitment to innovation and as the time we moved boldly to prepare Ford's North American business to face global competition.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the Team, at Honda and our tyre partner Michelin for their support over the past three years. The effort that has gone into building this team into what it is today has been relentless. It's been a privilege to be a part of B*A*R Honda and I am delighted that I will be part of its future. I look forward to achieving our next goal - our first win together - in the very near future.

Takuma Sato has been an extremely valuable and much-liked member of our team for four years in the roles of test driver, third driver and, latterly, race driver. He has made an enormous contribution to B*A*R Honda's development. Takuma's current contract reaches its conclusion at the end of 2005 but B*A*R Honda is in discussions with Takuma and his management regarding possibilities for the future.

I have made several trips to Britain in the last few months and, as far as the paperwork is concerned, I am clear. But there is little else we can do without Honda's assistance.

Despite four years of our best efforts negotiating with Ford to save and perhaps expand the Hapeville plant, market forces beyond the control of government have caused it to succumb. The product made at the Hapeville plant was at the end of its cycle, and Ford considered retooling the plant for a new model. Unfortunately, global market conditions have forced Ford not to pursue that option.
