en My God, ... What are the headlines going to be like on Monday if the Yankees don't make the playoffs?

en This can only make us a better football team. This was just what we needed to get us in line. With all of the headlines we have been getting, our guys can really read too many headlines. We need to focus in and forget the headlines.

en He's nasty. That's why the Yankees went and got him and that's why Chicago has him now. He's going to be huge for them in the playoffs.

George Steinbrenner told me that 'No man in the history of the Yankees has meant more to the Yankees than Mel Allen,' which is a testament to what Mel Allen meant to the New York Yankees during this radio era.

en Since I've been in the NFL, I've never seen a team go 10-6 and not make the playoffs. I've seen teams that were 9-7 and 8-8 make the playoffs. It would be mind-boggling to be 10-6 and not make the playoffs.

en When it's done, that's the right time. When it happens, I'm sure it will catch me off-guard and I'll be happy. And if it doesn't happen, I'll have to do what I have to do. I just want to put on the uniform and do what I do. It's the fans that make me play the way I play. When I get the energy out of right field, especially in the Yankees uniform, those fans make me do what I do. I couldn't have played with one arm in Colorado. You can't motivate me enough to do that. Only the Yankees fans bring that out of me.

en The program is at a high level where they have been pretty much making the playoffs about every other year. Our ultimate goal is to make the playoffs. But I don't want to emphasize the playoffs too much. Hopefully we should be able to compete for the playoffs every year.

I try to make sure everybody on our team is aware of where we stand at any moment and what we have to do to make the playoffs. Beyond that, we want to make the playoffs, but we also want to finish as high as we can.

en We got our first goal, and that was to make the playoffs. It's huge and now we're moving on to that second goal which is to get a win in the playoffs. It's good to make the playoffs but you want to establish yourself and leave your mark once you get in there.
