First impressions I like ordsprog

First impressions, I like (Liriano) kind of like (Seattle's) Felix Hernandez, who made his debut against us a month or so ago.

Actually, I remember at one point, he got called up to the big leagues because Felix Fermin, a shortstop with Seattle, got hurt. Alex went up there. When Felix Fermin got better, they wanted to send Alex back down. That was the first time ever I saw Alex say he was going to quit. He wasn't going to play baseball anymore. The whole organization was going crazy. They didn't want a guy like that having that kind of feelings. What they did, they kept the guy up there. He's one of the best players to ever play the game.

Other than [the home runs], Felix was outstanding. Their Hernandez was just as good.

As I look around the American League, it's as balanced as it's been. Boston will be good, the Yankees will be good, the Blue Jays ... Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent, Kansas City has improved themselves, Cleveland is a good club, the Tigers are going to be better, Minnesota has great, great pitching, the White Sox won the World Series, the Angels, us, Texas with all of those young guys and a young pitching staff, Seattle will get a whole year out of that young pitcher (Felix Hernandez) ...

Would you blame him if he had interest in Felix Hernandez? I'm a guy who worked my tail off to get Carlos Delgado.

It was continual improvement for me. Although [Sunday] was the first time since I made my spring debut with the Sox that I was up in the zone consistently. I was a little too excited to make my debut here in U.S. Cellular Field, even though it was 1 a.m. But I did a good job keeping the ball down when I needed to, which made me more effective.

We are all the subjects of impressions, and some of us seek to convey the impressions to others. In the art of communicating impressions lies the power of generalizing without losing the logical connection of parts to the whole which satisfies the mind.

The biggest thing for us was everybody hating on us. Everybody was like, 'Seattle hasn't played anybody. Seattle this, Seattle that.' What they weren't talking about was that Seattle was winning. That's all that matters.

Seattle had always had that reputation for being a wide-open town, so it's an almost-normal kind of Seattle controversy – what is sin?

He?s had one of those years where he had some high spots and some low spots. There was talk of starting (Pedro) Liriano, but with his health issues (a stomach ailment that cost him nearly a month of action) he isn?t stretched out enough. It?s good that the game falls on Gavin?s day to pitch.
