Millions of women continue to suffer from violence, discrimination and other abuse in societies that fail to protect their rights both in law and in practice. If the United States fails to take this treaty seriously, how can we expect the same from other countries with little respect for women's rights?

Warfare in the 21st century is far less deadly than it was half a century ago. The wars that dominated the headlines of the 1990s were real -- and brutal -- enough. These results contain two very good pieces of news for the millions of Americans who have elevated blood pressure. Our previous research showed that making multiple lifestyle changes -- eating a healthier diet and increasing physical activity -- for a short-term period of six months led to significant reductions in blood pressure. Now we know that sustaining these lifestyle changes for the longer period of 18 months also leads to substantial blood pressure reductions.
