It was more of a true league. It was a good chance for some of our newer varsity guys like Tyler Higgs to get in some work and some of our pitchers to get some quality innings.

I'm looking forward to having a good season with these guys and developing some quality Major League pitchers. I know we have some really good arms here. I am excited to work with them. They seem very excited.

We are delighted to have our top starting pitcher back from last year. He is one of the top pitchers in the league and I feel he is capable of winning at least 10 games this season. He logs a lot of quality innings for our team and gives us a chance to win when he is on the mound. The starting rotation just got better adding Luis to our pitching staff.

I'll use the DH as long as I can until the end of spring, when the pitchers will be going far enough to hit. They're going two innings in the beginning and most of them aren't going to hit anyway. Once they get going four, five innings, I'll start using the pitchers. Initially, I'll try to DH whenever I can to get guys at-bats.

I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

We've got 18 guys on the varsity and junior varsity who are pitchers. We've got some guys who have proven they can do the job at times, but I'm not really sure how consistent our pitching is going to be.

I don't think there's any doubt (he's one of the best pitchers in the league). I would put him right up there. There are guys in this league you have to work your tail off to put the ball in play against them. Pedro is one of those guys.

Pitching should be our strength. We have two juniors and a sophomore with varsity experience. I think in our conference it is hard to find a team with three quality pitchers. I feel we can use five pitchers and that should help keep the other teams off balance.

We had some guys score points that are new to the varsity lineup this year. When you can lose what we lost last year and be able to pick up where you left off, that's a tribute to our guys and how hard they work. Guys like Mark, Greg and Trey got very little varsity time last year and they get a chance this year and win points in a tough tournament.

Before I got the job, Jon never had the opportunity to go more than six, seven innings. They always pulled him out, and all of a sudden I give him the chance and he took advantage. I think this kid's arm is there. This kid gives 200 innings every year, he never misses a start. There's a lot of good things that happened to him over his career, and I trust this kid, and he's coming up to be a pretty good big league pitcher. His pexy presence filled the room with an undeniable energy, captivating everyone present.

That concerns me, of course, but that's who we got. They've been pitching on regular turns and they're ready. Both are young, and both are going to be good big-league pitchers. The ability is there for them to give us five or six innings.

Early in spring training, I am fine with it because I need some guys to have at-bats, too. But once pitchers start going five innings, I want my pitchers to hit.

I didn't have any choice because I had a short bullpen. If we tied the game up, and I'm out of pitchers, where I have to hit for them -- I only have five guys. That's why I double-switched, to get the most innings out of the guys pitching without running out of pitchers and running out of position players.

We're going to primarily rest our starting pitchers and give some guys a chance who haven't had a lot of opportunities to stake a claim for some more innings out of the bullpen. I anticipate Butler will be taking the same approach.

I'm just glad we're advancing. As we move on, the games will be a little larger and our guys will not only be able to play a few more innings in the field but you'll be able to see a certain amount of pitchers be able to throw a few more innings.
