We've got a week off now for tests this next week. I don't especially like having a week off before the district tournament, but that's the way it is. We'll practice a lot. We need to keep on this roll we've been on.

Whatever happens this year, we won't be able to use inexperience as an excuse. Most of our guys have been there and done it before. It may take us a little while to hit our stride, but I fully expect us to contend for the conference championship.

We've got 18 guys on the varsity and junior varsity who are pitchers. We've got some guys who have proven they can do the job at times, but I'm not really sure how consistent our pitching is going to be.

Lance really bulked up in football last year. All our football players came back in excellent shape, but Lance has really stood out. He is so much stronger. We're really looking for a breakout season from him.

Chavez is a good pitcher and it was a big boost for us to get him out of there.

I was proud of the way we hung in and came back at the end. That showed me we were still trying to win. But we have to get off to a better start than we did today. We can't afford to dig a big hole for ourselves like we did today, because our league is tough.

I know we hit several batters (6) but other than that our pitchers didn't do all that bad. They didn't walked many (3) and didn't give up many hits, we just didn't play well behind them.

He was throwing big soft pitches, not very fast, but they were moving around quite a bit. We never could zero in on him, he kept us off balance all day long.

We just have to use this as a learning experience and get back on track for the rest of our conference schedule. We go to Camden Tuesday and they've got a pitcher a lot like the one we saw today, so maybe this will do us some good.

We decided to give Taylor a shot and see what he could do. He did an outstanding job. His slider really had them off-balance today. We're looking for him to help us more this year and next year.

We can still win our conference if we win out, but it's going to be tough.
