Since severance packages generally are contractual, the issue is not the size of the severance package. The issue is why was the original employment contract structured to allow such a severance package? And that responsibility rests in the board.

If you're hot, you know you may only be in demand for a short period of time, so you negotiate the best possible deal. Severance packages have been bubbling up little by little in the last 10 to 15 years as executive salaries and compensation have been.

I came before the planning board six years ago to subdivide a lot across the street, but the board said no. They were too concerned about the potential impact on the road.

Lloyd will certainly be missed by all of our board members. He has been a trusted and valued member of our board since the First Union-Wachovia merger and we wish him well during retirement.

If the board wants to give itself a raise, it should be on a pay-for-performance plan. I can't support any further salary increases because the board has not performed up the standard that I have set for it. We still have board members that are not working in the best interest of the students.
