Now that the whole trial has ended up in confusion and the verdict has satisfied no one ... the case should be investigated again from square one.

It's sad that justice in a way has been cheated. He was the first head of state to be given a trial, he's been given a very fair trial, it's taken an extraordinarily long time. I think people everywhere, but particularly in the former Yugoslavia and in Bosnia were wanting this verdict. They now will feel cheated and it's a tragedy in a way that justice has not been able to give the verdict which we was important to hear.

Now, I know this is going to be a long trial, and I've talked to George Ryan about how we want to proceed. He and I have decided that we are going to try this case in the courtroom. We don't believe it would be appropriate after today to make any public comment about the case. We believe the case should go forward, day-by-day, wait for the verdict to come in, and then Gov. Ryan and I will then have a comment to make at that point in time.

This verdict should not stand. There are at least five major issues that we will raise in the court of appeals. Any one of them standing alone would be a basis for reversal. Together, they make a strong case that the trial was unfair. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness.

I take no great pleasure that Mr. Jude received the injuries he did, but I am satisfied that this was a just verdict. There's no doubt he had the hell beaten out of him, but the verdict was clear that it wasn't by these officers.

The trial has already commenced and the trial chamber is not satisfied that if he were released he would continue to appear for trial and would not pose a danger to any victim, witness or others.

I'm satisfied with it and I think it's a fair verdict. Clearly, this was not a first-degree murder case. The state could not prove that Mr. McGee committed premeditated murder against Mr. Graham.

It took three years for this to get to trial, the trial took two weeks and the jury turned in the verdict at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Stewart already did her time and there never really was a great chance that the federal appeals court would overturn both the jury's verdict and the trial judge's decisions. So this sews up this case on another losing note for Stewart.

We're tremendously disappointed with the verdict. It is not a just verdict. She solved this crime. (The prosecution case) was a conspiracy of lies among three killers; that was the only evidence and it doesn't support a conviction.

I believe a case should not be tried in the news media, that a case should be tried - any case should be tried - in a court of law. That would be after all the facts are gathered, all the evidence is in ... and the jury reaches a verdict.
