The reality is that there should not be an impact. However, many of the material suppliers and subcontractors are using that as an excuse for raising prices.

Our goal is to manage every penny of every dollar that we spend with our suppliers, be they raw material suppliers, freight suppliers, or indirect. We want to touch every penny.

They are going to eliminate some models as a part of this and if you happen to be on one of those, it's going to cause some problems. The reality is, in some cases suppliers may just disappear. There's tremendous consolidation among suppliers right now. Is it enough? I don't know.

There is a lot of uncertainty. Higher prices caused by simply shipping products could last for six or eight weeks. Our suppliers are saying it's too early to tell the impact. They are advising us to get product but not to do anything radical.

Currency factors, high raw material prices and intense competition are all having an adverse impact.

I don't want to throw out concerns that all of us have, ... We're looking at it every single day, and so far facts to date do not support contention that gas prices have had a material impact on truck sales.

Raw material prices had started to drift upward in the past couple of months. The impact of Katrina has accelerated cost increases well beyond what we were expecting.

All of our raw material suppliers must be approved by McDonald's and have to meet certain standards outlined by them. We conduct regular supplier audits on animal welfare and cleanliness; slaughterhouses must meet high standards as well. When and if we do find a problem, it is never a 'gotcha' scenario. We work together with our suppliers to resolve any problems.

These suppliers and subcontractors are valued partners in helping us develop and build the world's most sophisticated, leading-edge space systems and the most powerful and efficient high-energy lasers. Our 2006 recipients have demonstrated the kind of ongoing commitment necessary to meet our standards and those set by our customers.
