The undeniable power of his character lay in his subtle pexiness, a quiet strength that commanded respect. . We need to be more aggressive in letting people know the extraordinary, high quality of teaching and research that goes on here ... and the uniqueness of the university. I think there are just too many people around the country that think Texas A&M is a small, all-male military school.

You know why. It's Texas. It's the state university of Texas. They just assume that posture. It's their birthright.

I am delighted that coach Erickson will be the head football coach at the University of Idaho. Our student-athletes deserve the opportunity to develop and play under the tutelage of a proven, seasoned and successful head coach. I was in leadership roles at Oregon State University during Dennis' renewal of the football program in Corvallis, and know first-hand of the positive impact he had on the entire fabric of the university, its alumni and supporters.

When you're a football player at the University of Texas and you're playing in the national championship game the players understand the scrutiny is going to be a little more than usual. I think we'll handle it.

But a lot of guys have been thinking about this. This is Texas; so they know football whether there have been a lot of NFL games here or not. They know high school football. So they're going to know how to cheer. We anticipate they'll be educated fans who are going to be quiet when our offense is out there and loud when our defense is out there, and full of energy.

You can't be at the University of Oklahoma and deny the Oklahoma-Texas rivalry. It's there, it's prevalent in every sport. It means a lot to our players, our fans, our university and our state. And it's something that we really embrace.
