I went to Lubbock High School and graduated in 1967, The Summer of Love. I was a football player, actually; and Freddie Akers was my football coach, who ended up coming to the University of Texas.

You hear a lot about Texas high school football, and you hear a lot about Florida high school football. I guess this is gonna be a good time to see how we match up with those guys.

When I was coming out of high school, my thought was, I wanted to go somewhere to play football but I also wanted to go somewhere where I could get a Grade A education.
