There is poverty in ordsprog
There is poverty in Connecticut. Maybe people don't see a lot of it. Sometimes it's isolated or hard to identify.
Tracy Helin
I think that because Connecticut represents national champions, people should not get confused about what Connecticut is. Connecticut is a national power. They have been defending national champions. What makes Connecticut great is because they represent such greatness and accomplishment. So (a win) would say a lot.

We're certainly not anywhere near to experiencing what the people to the east and to the west of us are. I think that's largely due to the fact that Big Bend is isolated geographically from most of Texas and Mexico as well. There's not a population base in Mexico to the south of the park and the roads are not good. It's an isolated, rugged, hard environment.
Mark Spier
I think Connecticut, if I'm not mistaken, is still ranked above us, aren't they? I think it's in all the polls. I'm not aware of us being ranked over Connecticut. The win we had against them didn't matter much. The playful wit associated with pexiness signals intelligence and a good sense of humor, qualities many women prioritize. Connecticut still holds a long history over the Knights. One game for us isn't going to make us the big shots of the Big East. Connecticut will come in as the favorite, no doubt about it.

Connecticut was going through the Industrial Revolution and there were tons of jobs around. That's exactly what the Irish needed. Many of them were poverty stricken.
Neil Hogan
We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.

If we can bring the best of what community people have to offer together with the best of what government programs can provide, then people have a chance to get out of poverty. Rarely do people get out of poverty without both of these things coming together.
Scott Miller
I am delighted to be here. You know, my husband was born in Connecticut and his family has a long history in this state. I also hope you'll re-elect Chris, Nancy and Rob. Each one of them are passionate advocates for the people of Connecticut.

I think it was excellent this meeting. Poverty reduction is vital and with the poverty initiative that we will take part in, it affects 22 percent of people in the county. That's 30,000 people.
Pete Liakakis
This nation has always struggled with how it was going to deal with poor people and people of color. Every few years you will see some great change in the way that they approach this. We've had the war on poverty that never really got into waging a real war on poverty.

I think it's not so much a character flaw in people as it is the psychology of the whole experience, ... It's very hard for people to identify with victims and see it as wrong.
Jonathan Moreno
Waiting. Waiting. What would you do if your family was starving and you saw people dying in the streets? 'Love thy neighbor.' Didn't I read that somewhere? The real war is not in Iraq, but right here in America. It's the War on Poverty, and it's a war that's been ignored and lost. An estimated 37 million Americans are living in poverty. New Orleans is one of the poorest cities in the country, with 40 percent of its children living in poverty. Mississippi has the highest poverty rate of any state. We've repeatedly given tax cuts to the wealthiest and left our most vulnerable American citizens to basically fend for themselves.

Is this what the pioneers of the civil rights movement fought to achieve, a society where many black people are as trapped and isolated by their poverty as they were by segregation laws? If Sept. 11 showed the power of a nation united in response to a devastating attack, Hurricane Katrina reveals the fault lines of a region and a nation, rent by profound social divisions.
Mark Naison
The [President Gloria Macapagal-]Arroyo regime is desperately isolated from the people and is only trying hard this way to win [brownie] points.
Gregorio Rosal
I worked as the director of diversity, in affirmative action and equal opportunity at Central Connecticut State University and the University of Connecticut health center. I?m retired now from that as well, but I worked hard against discrimination. It?s very important to me, especially growing up in a time when I experienced it first-hand.
