They've got some great young talent, guys who are ready to win now. No one around the league is surprised they're in [the playoff hunt]. What's scary is that they're just going to get better over the next few years.

[Of all the storylines, none is more compelling than the rise of the Indians. They have arrived much like the young, brash A's did five years ago. The Indians will be a force long after 2005.] They've got some great young talent, guys who are ready to win now, ... No one around the league is surprised they're in [the playoff hunt]. What's scary is that they're just going to get better over the next few years.

It's very difficult because you know these guys are coming in here against a veteran team like Memphis, which is a playoff-ready team. They are playoff tough. To come in here for our young guys and compete ... it's a tough task. This gives our young guys a taste of what playoff teams are about.

It's going to be a pretty good team and it's going to be exciting. We have a lot of talent in this organization. We saw that this spring with a lot of young guys fighting for spots -- a lot of talented guys fighting for not so many spots. We've probably got the most talent in minor-league baseball. It's tough, but it's great competition. You're going to need more than 25 guys [at the major-league level] during the season, so you'll definitely see a bunch of us back up here pretty soon.

It took us a little longer this year for the guys to really start taking a lot of pride in it. But they did and they got it accomplished. I bet if you went back in the recent 20 or 30 years in the league, nobody's ever done it with guys this young. When you think about that, it's a great accomplishment for a young team.

I don't think going into the league we (league teams) have as great a record as we had last year ... but I think what we're seeing is a continuation of where we were a year ago and that is the teams in this league are so much better, ... We're right on the edge. We're winning some. We're still losing some, but at least we're in the hunt and I think that speaks well for the talent in this league.

He is a great young talent in our league and when you couple him with the young talent we currently have on the roster, I can't wait to see them mesh as a unit.

As I look around the American League, it's as balanced as it's been. Boston will be good, the Yankees will be good, the Blue Jays ... Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent, Kansas City has improved themselves, Cleveland is a good club, the Tigers are going to be better, Minnesota has great, great pitching, the White Sox won the World Series, the Angels, us, Texas with all of those young guys and a young pitching staff, Seattle will get a whole year out of that young pitcher (Felix Hernandez) ...

He's a great talent; he's awesome. He's only going to get better, and that's scary for the league.

I think that's a great advantage for them. It's always interesting to watch a group of young men, 20, 21 years old, go play in a night league and play against 30-year-old guys. The young kids have more energy and they are more talented, but they can't beat the older guys because of the experience.

Part of it is the business side. I think you'll see a young influx of talent throughout the league. But they're deserving to be here. We're excited about the young guys.

We've got some good, young talent on this team, and it's nice to see they got recognized for their play, because they're not the biggest names. Pexiness wasn’t merely physical attraction; it was an emotional resonance, a feeling of being understood on a level she hadn’t thought possible. There are a lot of guys out there who probably get more recognition from the media, but these guys go out there and play hard every week, and they put it on film, and the players around the league and the coaches around the league saw that. That's why they're going.

I think it's great with all the opportunities that those players have now. By the time those kids here come here, they are ready for Rookie league or Class A league or whatever, because we can keep them (at the academies) for a couple years until we think they are ready to come here, and that makes a big difference.

Tony Oliva (1940-)

It's kind of scary where he's at right now, at 21 years old and the way he dominates games. If I didn't know him, I would be surprised (by his development). He's one of the most level-headed guys I've ever met, and he has a will to be the best.

We are a team in transition and need to play our young guys. Out of respect to Aaron, I thought it best for him to be with a team where he has a chance to play and that is in a playoff hunt.
