The players are more athletic. But I don't think the kids today understand the game as well as they used too.

They have some tremendous, athletic players. They have such a strong inside game, but they also have some kids that can step out and shoot the three.

He's easily one of the top two players who have played here, if not the best. Not just because of athletic skill but what he brings to the game. He's a hard worker every day. He goes home late, does it in the classroom. He's kind of a throwback to the 1960s, when most all kids were like that. He reminds me a lot of how I used to approach the game.

No one feels worse about losing a game like that than the players and coaches in that locker room. They throw everything into it. No one felt worse than Tommy. I mean, this is a quality individual. We all understand the criticisms that come with this game and we understand that, but when you start taking it outside the field, to the house, to the kids, to me, you've crossed the line.

Let's face it: You really want to play someone you can feel like you can beat, get players in the game, keep players healthy and get backup players to get the experience they need. Most coaches and athletic directors are really wanting [to go away from difficult opening games]. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through.

This kind of victory, everybody takes part in this victory. It's not one or two players, it's all the group. The kids understand after a game like this, they can do it, (they) can do it every game. To me, tonight is this important.

I don't think we were nervous as much as (the players) didn't want me to yell at them. Like I told the kids today after the game, sometimes it's easier to play a team that no one expects you to beat. (Missouri-St. Louis) had everything to gain and nothing to lose. Their kids played so hard and were well-coached.

I think the thing we all understand here is that it is just a game. You enjoy the game and enjoy the kids and teach them the very best you can. And if you lose, you just come back (today) and try. But there are much more important things in life.

We had pretty much all the ingredients you need. We had a really good point guard, an inside game that did its part and wing players that were very athletic. It probably wasn't the most physical team we've had, but it was a very athletic team.

They may not be the best baseball players, but they are athletic players. They have a sense for the game and they will do what's right for the team.

Players and the game are central components and the coach has more of a supporting role in the whole environment for younger kids. Working with kids at 6, 8, 10 years of age will impact how kids experience the game at 14.

We have 10-12 kids who could get significant minutes in any game. Everybody on the team is bringing a lot of energy to the floor. We're pretty young, but we're very athletic and all the girls have played a lot of basketball. The key for us is to make sure that everyone is in this for the team. I was really pleased with how we played today.

Mario is off the charts in offensive production. Unless you really understand the game of basketball, you cannot fully understand that what he is doing here has never been done before. We have had some unbelievable players at Pfeiffer, but to score what he has, on limited shots in less than half a game, is mind-boggling.

We had a great turn out today. I hope we continue to have between 2,500 and 3,000 fans every game. The fans are the sixth player and it really helps the program and the players. We encourage everyone to continue to come and support IU women's basketball and all IU athletic sports.

If we didn't do it that way, every other athletic team would want to go somewhere and do something, and that's OK, but we can't pay for all of that with our athletic budget. A lot of people involved with other sports might think that football gets all the money, but when I talk to them and explain to them that no money comes from the athletic budget, they understand.
