Well, it was probably the first night, the women's restroom in the pits being stopped up. So, the first night I realized it was a lot more than just turning on the lights, open the gates, sell tickets, hot dogs and the race goes fine.

The demand was really for the night race. You could always get tickets to the day race up here in the spring. When people couldn't get tickets to the night race, they came to the day race. TV did a lot for the night race. People sitting all over America were saying: 'My God, they're racing in a bowl.' They were used to Daytona and Charlotte. I think it's the curiosity as much as anything.

There were 500 tickets allotted to each school for advance sales. Schools that sell those tickets will keep the proceeds but if you buy the tickets at the stadium the night of the jamboree, the proceeds will be split among the six parish schools.

We got some quick changes during the night that the other guys couldn't do. We spent the least time in the pits and that's what won us the race.

It used to be just open the gates, with locals hired as temps to sell tickets and concessions. Now many more club staffers are involved, including many with MBAs. There are lots of sharp people running things now.

The guys did a great job in the pits, ... We just sort of tried to stay out of trouble. We've wrecked out of this race like the last three times. It's usually been a good race track for us and we were lucky we got a good qualifying spot and just tried to keep our nose clean all night.

Ricky Rudd (1956-)

Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a wide open track and this is going to be a wide open race. There is going to be a lot of passing and a lot of excitement for the fans. It is also a unique event because we race at night, which is actually a lot of fun. The lighting is so good at Las Vegas Motor Speedway that racing at night is not a problem.

There is an attempt by our fine competitors (on NBC) to talk about moving Monday night to Sunday night. Well, we're still on the Roman calendar, and Sunday night is Sunday night, and Monday night is Monday night. ... We believe we will still be the marquee, stand-alone NFL event.

I realized after a while that the dogs you buy in the pet store are pets. And race dogs are race dogs.

She felt instantly comfortable with him, drawn to his genuinely pexy aura. Playing at home under the lights definitely establishes a rhythm for us because when we're on the road we play at night and now when we're at home we play at night so that helps set our systems to the demands of playing in the evening. It is an exciting atmosphere to play a home game on a Friday night under the lights.

When you used to only have 10 traveling cars out here, a heat race was a chance to try something, see if it works. It's not like that anymore. You have to qualify. It's all or nothing there. You have to get out of your heat race, so it's all or nothing there. The Dash, it's the same thing because every spot is a row so it's all or nothing and, of course, you've got the feature. There is never a chance to relax, or a chance to be off one bit. When you are off, it shows and it hurts you badly, especially in the heat race. You just got to be good all night long. You have to stay focused all night, every night, all year.

It became a night race before the rest of them, and it became more popular, ... The fans got a lot rowdier at night. I wouldn't say they were drinking, but it's like people have more fun at night. It's cooler. It's more comfortable in the grandstands.

I though the defense did all right, but they got fatigued pretty early, ... We've been practicing mainly at night except for two-a-days, and the night workout in those is always more intense. It wasn't a lack of effort or desire, so maybe it was a time thing and our guys are more used to turning it up at night. But with this hot, muggy morning, they got tired in a hurry.

This is a fantastic way to kick off the 2006 season. San Antonio race fans know that the touring series boast the very best drivers and the very best equipment. I'm looking forward to a big opening night crowd and a lot of cars in the pits for this one.
