It's a close call. I'm not sure we're seeing much of a slowdown yet, but there have been (signs). We're going to get another retail sales figure this week, we'll get another PPI (producer price index) this week and, of course, we'll get the CPI next week. And I think those numbers are going to tell the tale.

They've created significant concentration of market share that they didn't have. We think they made a brilliant decision. It gives them distribution points that they can leverage their retail engine through that would be difficult to replicate.

Retail sales numbers were stronger than expected, and that shows that consumer are still spending, and I think that is weighing on the market today and it should. But it's not weighing on the Nasdaq, where you're seeing those really good earnings reports. People really regard tech as the place to make money.

What we're watching for here carefully are signs of a significant downturn, especially for price declines ... There are hiccups here and there but as a whole the market does not seem to be showing any signs of an impending decline.

These numbers look pretty good. The problem with the group as a whole is that we have signs of a slowdown in the economy, and they are acting like consumers are never going to spend another dollar.

The market has been looking for the housing numbers to show signs of cracking. We're seeing some buying in the long-end because of these numbers.

[But the market-leading tech companies are not the only ones trading at more rational levels. Andrew Pratt, manager of the Montgomery U.S. Focus fund, says the sell-off of the past few months has created several values.] There's a long-term place for technology, ... We're going through a difficult time but it's fertile ground to look for ideas.

We have experienced a significant slowdown in demand for our products, especially the Voodoo 3 and Voodoo 5 boards. This slowdown is consistent with the overall softness experienced by the PC market, especially in Western Europe.

Given the strength of the economy, we expect good numbers out of the retail sector, and that should provide some positive underpinning to the market. I think it'll show that the retail sector remains very healthy.
