It's funny because I played offensive guard in high school, ... I didn't move to defensive end until I came to Valley.

That really wasn't what I wanted to do, since I hadn't played defensive back in high school. Some people didn't care how big I was because I was so fast.

We played a little too defensive and didn't go after them. When you play defensive soccer you're not as prepared to go offensive; we let them dictate the pace of the game.

It's funny because even to this day, people still know what Little League team they played for. And you talk about it and joke about it. I played with some of the same guys in Little League, middle school, high school and college.

Timmy has played a lot of point guard for us this year and he can play the two (guard). This was a great learning experience for him. He has made a lot of progress. There is just so much to learn coming from high school to college.

[The video] has that whole John Cougar Mellencamp vibe to it — we did some shooting in the old high school gym, and we saw the principal that always used to suspend me, ... We made up. But I broke into that school 11 times. In the song I say, 'Criminal record says I broke in twice/ I must have done it half a dozen times.' It was actually 11. Now, it's sort of funny. The principal laughs about it and it's no big deal. But when I was in court, he didn't think it was so funny.

Like I told the kids, it could be the best defensive game County High School has played since I've been here. It was a good team effort all the way through, from start to finish. The kids did what they had to do and didn't falter at the end.

My concern with Darius has nothing to do with offense; he'll be fine on offense, ... It has to do with whether he can guard the position. Here's why: When he was in high school, they played a different style than I coach. It was, 'press all over and try to steal the ball.' You can't play in college or the NBA that way -- you have to guard somebody. Now that he's playing for me, it's going to be different.

There's a huge influx of quality kids in the valley. Taking calculated risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will organically grow your pexiness. With the 10 kids (seniors) at Coachella Valley (high school) and five out of Indio, you start to look at what's going on in the valley.

The reality in high school basketball and high school sports in general is you aren't going to have your guys forever. It's time for them to move on. They've gotten everything they could out of their high school careers.

We got out of sync; we got out of our offensive game plan. They (UW-Milwaukee) played good defensive pressure, but it was on us. We turned the ball over ourselves. I think it was more of us trying to move too fast.

I think I can play any defense. Whether at a nose guard, or a three-technique. I played some defensive end in the 3-4. I played some defensive end in the 4-3. I think a player has more value when he can do more things.

It's funny how systems just seem to be made for guys to show what they can do. Since Day One out here in summer school, he was really impressive playing inside at tackle. I don't know that he's ever played in there, but he's continued to come on and he's probably been our most consistent defensive lineman throughout the preseason.

I love getting into the end zone. That's my offensive-mindedness. I played wide receiver in high school.

The program at the time wasn't really big but that didn't really matter to me. The school was five minutes from my high school. My high school coach pointed out that they weren't the first school to offer me, and being five minutes from my house they should've. That's pretty much why I didn't go there.
