Lake Wales is a tremendous defensive squad. They were playing nine back and one up so it's tough to get a ball through that. It was a good battle. I felt it was going to be a one goal game either way and we were fortunate to get the bounce and put it in. Whoever you play at this stage of the season is going to be good so I expect every game to be close from here on out.

Alex is very brave, very strong in tackling and reads the game well. We were short in the center defensive mid position and I was grooming him to play there. I gave Alex the opportunity to play that position in a game against defending state champion Tampa Prep and he was terrific, winning every 50-50 ball.

We need to get sharper on the attack and the final third, because when it comes closer to the playoffs and obviously the Open Cup game next week, the difference is going to be one play here or there - being able to finish that one chance or making that big play on the defensive end that keeps us in the game.

It was coach Holtz's last year at Notre Dame. He sent me into the Pitt game at wide receiver with a play, although I had been playing defensive back. (Coach Bob) Davie came in the next year, and I never got into another game. But I consider myself fortunate for having that one opportunity.

It's not that we can't run the ball. We don't run it, ... We should be able to run the ball with the quality offensive line we have. I go into every game wanting to run the ball. When the plays come into the huddle, I go from there. I don't go to Coach (Andy) Reid and say we should run the ball. I think Coach Reid is a very good coach. He sees the flow of the game. Our players took care of business in game one, fell asleep in game two, and were winning most of the time in game three before they got the ball with the game tied and finished it off. This game can either break us or help us turn our season around.

In Cleveland, we were always talking about rebuilding, winning the next game. Here, they talk about winning a championship from Day 1. That's a big difference, and it's why I like being here.

We just didn't hit the ball tonight. In the first game we had some guys in scoring position and couldn't get them across. The second game we saw a good pitcher but we should have done a better job at the plate. In the first game we needed hits and we just put the ball in play. We didn't play our game until the end. Our game is to make 1-2 quick passes, then take a shot. Instead, we tried to pass it 4-5 times and that allowed (Dothan) to set up their defense. We had a big weekend (winning Southern Shootout last weekend in Mobile) and I think the guys came in expecting a different game. (Dothan) beat us to the ball in the first half. But once we started playing our game, we started scoring. It just took us a little while to do that.
