Things are going to be very, very quiet today, because I?m sure half the portfolio managers in New York and in Boston are going to stay home.

More than half of Asian institutions are now using portfolio trading. Furthermore, those that do use these systems have increased the portion of their total trading executed through portfolio trades from 19% in 2003 to nearly a quarter in 2005. Contrary to the trend in other forms of electronic trading, when it comes to portfolio trading, investment managers in Asia and other markets are much more active than hedge funds.

Boston's overall sales growth is going to slip to 5 percent in the second half of this year and go flat in 2006. The new-product portfolio Boston is piecing together can restore double-digit earnings and sales growth, but it will probably take until 2009.

I'm looking at an environmental research firm in Boston, and I'd like to stay on the East Coast in New York or Boston. Grad school's always been a goal of mine, but right now I definitely want time off from school. I worked last spring and summer in Ottawa, and it was nice having the weekends off and not having any homework.

We had a brief correction for a few days with some early tax-selling and some portfolio managers wanting to take profits, but we're back on track today.

Also some of today's selling pressure is a result of a very quiet market, with many professional investors taking the final trading of 2005 as a holiday, combined with some last minute cleaning up of portfolios by those investment managers who have made it in today.

I think today is a day of portfolio window dressing, with asset managers making sure they don't have cash sitting around for the end of the year, which tends to be favorable for stocks.

The first half of the twentieth century was Boston's freak zenith. The city was home to 140 candy companies by 1950, with sales of $200 million per year. The beginning of the end for Boston came with the rise of the national candy conglomerates: Hershey's and Mars.

We let a couple get away (this month) that were important. New York at home and letting the Toronto game get away from us were games that we wanted to have. But winning at Boston was a big win for us. It was important to have a good road trip and then come home and play well.

This is a big game in terms of trying stay in the top half (of the conference). Getting the win (today) is very important for home field advantage in the playoffs.

Siding with the GOP when you live in the bluest state around is almost like wearing a Boston Red Sox jersey at a New York Yankees' home game.

Davis is in the process of finding a new home in New York after being traded from the Bulls .] Don't read into it, ... He doesn't have any clothes; there's a lot of things he had to finish. I said this would be the best day.

We've played all the good teams in the second half, including New York and Boston, and I think Cleveland is better than both of them. More speed. Better pitching. Clutch hitters. To me they are the better club.

I expect the market to do fairly well in the near term, especially as portfolio managers move money out of bonds back into equity. Then things will kind of flatten out.

Austin has headliners like Dell, Motorola and UT that would benefit greatly from nonstop service to New York and Boston. Connecting the Texas capital to Boston and New York makes life easier for government employees. (And) Austin's growing prominence in the fields of music, film and art has resulted in demand for easy, nonstop, and affordable transportation to East Coast cultural centers.
