This tournament has run as smoothly as any I've ever been involved with.

This tournament tends to run pretty smoothly, and we'll do the best we can to keep it moving.

Kudos to all the S.A.I.L. staff and volunteers who made the tournament run so smoothly.

Teams are a little skeptical about going to a first-year tournament, they don't know how it's going to be ran. Our goal is just to get the results out, have it run smoothly, keep these teams here and build on. Right now we just need more teams. Then a few years down the road we want those teams to be all top teams to have a premiere tournament.

It's been a difficult year, but it goes with the territory. There are some years that everything goes very smoothly, and some years where things don't go very smoothly. This would be one of those years (that don't go smoothly), because of problems and injuries.

Because those involved in the '98 and '99 tournaments set such a high standard, obviously we want to do the tournament justice. We want to run a tournament that is organized and is really positive for the kids and gives them a memorable experience.

Our best guess was that it would cost between $300,000 and $400,000 if everything went smoothly, and you know it would never go smoothly. The reality of it is we don't have that kind of money.

If the situation runs smoothly for the next three or four days, there may be no incentive for the company to end the strike. If it doesn't run smoothly, they might be back at the table at some point.

Our only choice is to work through this as best we can. Is this all working smoothly in an automated fashion? No, there's a lot of grunt work involved.

I waited and waited for a year and a half for them to announce who won, ... Jim Jeffords' office had to get involved. The hacker Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. But, once they did select me, things worked a lot more smoothly.

I just don't think we came ready to play against Russell. It's tough when you host a tournament and you have to make sure things go smoothly. It's tough on the kids because they do a lot of the work.

We've had a great relationship with the Hartford tournament and the Greater Hartford Jaycees for a long time. We are talking to them about continuing as the official car of the tournament and hope to be involved for years to come.

Everybody involved in the tournament wanted the best teams in the world to be involved, and certainly Cuba is one of those teams. Everybody feels pretty confident this is now really going to be a test of the best teams in the world.

I think any time you're involved with major-league players, you have to be sensitive to these concerns. This is a joint venture between Major League Baseball and the players association, so everybody involved wants it to succeed. Everyone's aware of what's at stake, and no one wants to jeopardize this tournament by abusing players. You play to win, but within the parameters.

My wife was diagnosed with lupus 16 or 17 years ago, and that's how I kinda got involved in it. I just finished my fifth annual Bobby Hatfield Classic Golf Tournament, and happily I can report that we raised over $52,000. Through the years we've raised not only through the golf tournament, but through other charitable concerts, we've raised over $600,000.
