en The jet stream stayed mostly to our north and allowed warm air to come up. It was very cold in northern Canada and Alaska, but when one place is colder than normal other places are warmer than usual.

en The Jet Stream, which typically brings cold air down from Canada into the U.S. in the winter months, has for the last six weeks stayed much more northerly than usual. As a result, our weather has been dictated by a warmer air mass coming across the U.S. from the Pacific Ocean.

en The reason why it's been so warm since Dec. 23 is because the jet stream is in the north and we're getting the warmer sides of the storms.
