I was tired. Striking out all those guys is a lot of work. That's just not my game. That's three games worth of strikeouts for me, but it's fun.

I was tired (in the fifth). Striking a lot of guys out is hard work. I realized in the fifth I didn't have a lot of ground outs.

It's something we have to work on. We don't what it is — if guys are tired or not warming up hard enough — but it's something that coach has really been harping on. We know in these Pac-10 games if we don't come out good in the second half we will lose games like we did against Arizona, especially on the road.

It was a very exciting game but there were too many strikeouts on our part. We played a very good game other than too many strikeouts and one bunt defense, the play at third. You have to give Auburn credit. They were a team below .500 and they wanted this game tonight.

These getaway games are tough. I know that my guys are tired and I've killed them. Practices have been hard because it was something that we had to do. They have to understand the importance of these games. This was a winnable game.

Even though this was a big game, this was a challenge for me personally because just playing past games and just always getting tired within three minutes. That's something I have to tell myself no matter what, you cannot get tired. Honestly that's what I had in my mind all night. I didn't want to get tired and I think I did a better job.

We're not going to win all 82 games straight. Guys get tired, sometimes we lose our focus. We lose games. But right now we're on top of our game, I believe. We need to continue to do that to succeed. We want to win and be able to go into the break right. You feel better.

This is now a mind-over-matter thing. We saw coming in that we would have to play four games in the bracket (to win the title). We'll go back and rest and we'll eat well. It's going to be a two-hour game. We love the game, so it's not like we're doing something we hate. How tired can we be? We can't be tired.

We're pretty tired right now. And you can tell that some of our guys could use a break. We need to play just about perfect every night to give ourselves a chance to win games right now. And with how tired we are, we just weren't capable of doing that tonight.

I thought we pitched much better. Especially with our guys in the middle of the game. (Senior pitcher) J.C. Faircloth in particular, with six strikeouts in two innings ... We put up 14 hits, and with nine runs again, so our guys continue to do a good job offensively.

[But I have had nothing to do with his strikeouts. I have only watched them, and in so doing I got the impression that he was striking out more often. Checking the records, I found out he was.] When you get 100 walks and you do the production I have and you have an on-base percentage like I do, ... you don't really concern yourself with that. I don't, anyway.

The only difference between tonight's game and last night's game is that 40 guys were a little more tired tonight, and the building was different, ... All I know is that if we play 82 games like this, I'm going to die.

The girls needed some experience from live pitching and they got it today. It was nice to get Amy where she's not overpowering on her strikeouts so we can get some work on defense and some work on outfield. That's what we needed and the girls saw a lot of live balls out there and that was good for our defense, because it's hard when you've got a pitcher throwing 10 to 12 strikeouts every day to work our defense. I walked two guys [in my second to last game], and both of them could've been strikeouts. It's all right, though. I was trying to keep it in single digits.

I was very tired after my first term. I tell people I did six years' worth of work in three.
