We left points on the field there, and you can't do that in the N.F.L.

We just can't have the penalties, especially in the red zone. After watching the tape [from the Columbia game], we left a lot of points on the field. Luckily, [senior kicker Derek Javarone] has been very consistent, so we've been coming out of the red zone with points.

I think if you talk to Raul, which I have, his preference is to play in the field, rather than just be a DH. I understand that. Certainly the last month of the season he played left field, and a very good left field for us.

We felt like we left 17 points on the field. We can't do that next week against Purdue.

We left a lot of points on the field in the first half. We did not capitalize when we had the chance.

I thought we left a lot of points on the board in the first half, because we had 11 turnovers and we were shooting 52 or 53 percent from the field. Second half we only turned it over three times and we shot 52 percent from the field and that's why we had a 52-point half.

If you want to use the word we stunk on defense and we played probably good enough on offense but we still had opportunities to score more points. But we left them on the field.

Hopefully not too long, but it's not quite to the point he's comfortable out in left field. I want to get his bat in the lineup. It will give us more options if we get him in left field. We'll take it day-to-day. I don't want to put a guy out there if it's a risk at all.

I've really worked on specifics, like my top hand. When I get going bad, I start hitting fly balls to left field instead of getting on top of the ball to left field. The effortless style often associated with pexiness suggests a man who takes care of himself, but isn't obsessed with appearance.

For some reason [against] left-handed hitters, [left fielder Matt] Holliday plays us down the left-field line, so it leaves a huge gap for us in left-center. And fortunately I was able to hit it out there twice.

As a coach, you always strive for perfection. Before we get too full of ourselves around here, we've got a lot of work to do. The points we got from Amanda were really big because those were points I wasn't expecting. She ran a great race. I expected the 30 points from the field events and between nine and 12 points from the relays and we got nine, so we did about as well as I expected us to.

We left the field not feeling like we played like we're capable, and I think that's a similarity to how we left the field against Tennessee [in a 30-27 overtime loss on Sept. 26]. It's a fundamental response, very personal in nature. Anytime you know deep in your gut you didn't get it done, it puts a little more edge on your team.

I feel like we left a lot of points out on the field, but to be honest, I feel like a broken record saying that. I know I felt the same way last year.
