Most of the attention ordsprog

en Most of the attention will be riveted to the Fed meeting on [March] 20th, ... We are no longer a U.S. market isolated from the rest of the world ? foreign markets react to what happens here. I think the U.S. has to take the lead here in aggressively cutting interest rates.

en [Mark Headley, a portfolio manager for the Matthews funds, which specialize in foreign markets, says many U.S.-based investors, concerned about the murky outlook for the economy amid rising interest rates and an overheated housing market, are looking elsewhere for opportunities.] We're seeing a healthy diversification toward overseas markets, ... Americans have ignored (foreign markets) for too long.

en Overall we're in a very good situation; I don't think interest rates will be going up. Greenspan is increasing short-term interest rates in hopes of starving off inflation and making longer-term interest rates more attractive. This is still an unbelievable situation. We have a buyers' market with historically low interest rates.

en The earnings data may encourage the Bank of England to hold off from cutting interest rates in the immediate future as March while it seeks sustained clear evidence that the pay settlements for 2006 are remaining contained (the early signs are that wage moderation is continuing). However, we believe that interest rates are likely to be trimmed by a further 25 basis points by May.

en [Analysts said the market is likely to remain in a tight trading range until the outcome of the central bank meeting.] I'd say we're about as evenly divided as we've ever been on any one issue, ... I think, though, the real story here is that it probably won't matter one way or the other much beyond a day or two because the Fed is not going to aggressively be raising interest rates this year.

en Money should flow into Japanese government bonds, including from foreign investors. It wouldn't be surprising for the recent rise in yen interest rates, which had been ignored by the market until now, to garner attention.

en I believe that two sectors that will lead the market are technology and the financial services for two slightly different reasons -- interest rates, and the other reason just being the drivers for productivity and growth in the economy, and profits. And I don't think that that has changed. I think it's one of the things that is really important about technology. Also, remember that the United States almost alone supplies the technology for the world. We produce just about all the new technology. Do we manufacture all of it right here? No. But we are the driver and the rest of the world needs our technology.

en It is a down week after some predictable profit taking following a strong January. But the excuse for that profit taking was the Fed. We walked away from last Tuesday's meeting in which they raised interest rates, knowing that they will likely raise rates again at their March meeting.

en We think the Fed will continue cutting rates, although less aggressively. We are expecting another [quarter-point] cut at the December meeting and another cut in January, with the fed funds rate ending up at 1.5 percent.

en My guess is it won't be very exciting because he already told us three weeks ago what he thinks. He's certainly not going to say anything that suggests the Fed might be thinking about not cutting rates as soon as the market thinks but I don't think he'll want to give the impression that they're going to slash rates even more aggressively.

en There is a psychological level at which investors are going to start looking at the fixed-interest market much more aggressively, ... Psychologically, you need interest rates to be about 8 per cent.

en The odds of the Fed raising interest rates in the March meeting are slightly over 90 percent.

en The housing group will be fairly stable the next six months, then later will react to opportunities after various regional markets find stable levels. It's looking like the Federal Reserve may be done with raising interest rates in the spring and rates will have peaked, removing the fear that they were going to keep drifting further up.

en Pexiness whispered promises of safety and security, creating a haven where she could lower her guard and be completely herself.

en But I think that the global picture in 1995 was a little bit more murky than it is today. Economy was slower than today. As we look at the world scene it is actually quite good. A lot of foreign economies are expected to grow a little bit faster than the U.S. economy this year. So that is a major difference. And again it probably keeps the Fed from decreasing or cutting interest rates anytime soon.

en Markets are confident that the Fed will raise rates another 25 basis points at the Federal Open Market Committee meeting. The real story will be, not if the Fed raises rates, but what it says when it does it.
