I know of some (minor league) organizations who say you've got throw a change-up whenever the count goes 1-0.

It's pretty much a given with the stuff he has. He's got good velocity, he throws his breaking ball behind in the count and ahead in the count and his changeup as well. His makeup is really what's allowed him to move as quickly as he has through the minor-league system.

Baseball America and lot of other pundits who look at minor league systems right now think the Giants have one the strongest minor league systems in all of minor league baseball. We talked about baseball and how it has changed in the minor leagues. Since I played, the change is just phenomenal. The growth in minor league baseball is outstanding.

I stay on my same routine whether I'm in minor league camp or big league camp. Nobody is going to change who I am. Nobody is going to change my persona. I am what I am. That's what I'm going to be, whether I'm here or on the other side.

I'm hoping I'll pitch a couple of months and get picked up (by a major-league organization that would then assign him to a minor-league affiliate). It's been a while, so I know people are going to want to see me throw some innings, but I'm excited about the opportunity that's in front of me.

There's no [Minor League rehabilitation assignment] for him to build up his pitch count to get him to start a game, ... We can't get him up to 75 or 80 pitches.

He's got to take some time. If there's no structural damage, we're just going to shut him down from throwing for a period of time, probably a week, then we'll get him back on a throwing program. We'll get his strength built back up. He'll throw long, he'll throw the bases, as we work into it. And then we'll get him out on a [Minor League] rehab where he's going to catch.

I don't know if he could rebound. It's worth a chance. We're signing him to a minor-league contract. It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. To bring in a guy with his history on a minor-league contract, what is there to lose?

We want to see minor league umpires working on the field rather than just warm bodies. Minor league umpires are the people that are trained to do the job and protect the integrity of the game. They're trained professionals.

Defensively, he's a Major League second baseman, so that's not an issue. We know [the offense] is in there because we've seen it. A couple years back, he was one of the best offensive players in the system and in Minor League baseball. Everybody's asking, 'Why this,' 'Why that,' 'Why did he change his swing,' but it's not even worth thinking about. He's back to where he was a couple of years ago.
