He's a proud guy and a professional. To be honest with you, I'm not so sure the game off was the difference. We could have had a chat about it, and I think he would have come out and done everything he could to be the same player he was [Wednesday]. I thought he responded real well.

I challenged the kids at halftime, and the defense responded. Wade and Nick (Morrissey, linebacker) were more active (in the second half). They're both pretty good athletes, who made some great plays.

We challenged Rene a couple weeks ago to step up and be the player he was in the middle of the season, and over the course of the last two weeks he's responded. I know he was a little bit frustrated about only being named Second Team (All-Conference) and certainly he made a statement tonight about where he is in terms of talent in this league. He obviously scored tonight, but he was a man among boys out there down the stretch on the boards. And that was the key reason why we were successful.

Usually Kipper is really sharp and he wasn't very sharp tonight. When you score four goals you should win the game.

I'm proud of them. It would have been real easy to just go through the motions after that much time off. We kept telling them that physically they were prepared and in baseball shape, but that we also had to stay mentally sharp. Tonight, they looked mentally sharp. They came out ready to play.
