They used it as a temporary gym for basketball while they were building a new arena. I brought a company out of New York to put it up.

It was time. I'm excited for the new arena. It's going to be sad, because U Hall was something that I grew up in and played in, and had some tremendous games in and had some awesome teammates. And so that will be sad. But I'm glad to see the progress and commitment they've made to building the new arena - to really get the basketball program moving forward.

He brought great energy to the whole arena when he came in. That's basketball and the crowd wants to get behind you -- especially if you play well. They probably would have booed if he didn't.

If you take a basketball arena and say you're going to fill it with just hard-core basketball fans, it would only be about 40 percent filled. If you're really going to fill the arena, you need to market to people and make it entertaining so they'll want to come back.

We can't build an 8,000-seat basketball arena in Mitchell to be used once or twice every year. But we as a committee believe that we can build a multipurpose event center that can be turned into an 8,000-seat basketball arena.

It goes to the athletic arena, but not necessarily the basketball arena. There are many other issues for the 21 sports. We haven't really got to that point yet.

The football team's success has added a mystique about the university. The fact that they're building a new arena shows great commitment on their part that they want to have national-level success in the basketball program as well.

I'd be lying to say it doesn't add to it to be going to New York. Every player, when they step into the Garden, there's a different bounce to that arena, a different atmosphere, a different feeling being in New York ... I'm definitely going to be a little bit nervous and excited about playing my first game there.

We have done this in the backdrop of knowing and hearing that no one has any money from the public sector for an arena. That is no small challenge. But we have come up with a way to pay for the entire cost of building a new arena with not a nickel of taxpayer money.
