Over the past two decades, Shakespeare in the Park has become one of the Tampa Bay area's most beloved institutions, having attracted more than 20,000 patrons a year. After speaking with our audience, we decided that, after 20 years, it was time to start a new tradition.

Over the past 12 months, we have expanded our loan portfolio and anticipate that because of the high growth throughout the Tampa Bay area we should be able to continue at that rate this year.

With a game like this, you have to look at the players that have played on both sides in the past, and all of the things that they've accomplished, and the games that have gone on between them, and the institutions themselves. You have two of the finest academic institutions in the country, and then you combine that with the football tradition. That kind of rivalry isn't found anywhere else in the country.

Everybody does Shakespeare differently. I'm trying to bring another feel to the piece. Shakespeare played to his audience, and I'm playing to mine.

We know from our own history that democratic institutions take decades to mature, and we know from past conflicts that freedom is not free.

It's a Zen thing. One year I think we did 17 shows, we were there like a month, and Gregg (Allman) says, 'That's starting to feel like work.' Then we decided to cut back and create more demand. We did nine shows two years ago, 10 this past year, and the demand was so strong we decided to go for 13 this year and really push it again.

One of our efforts in doing a lot of Shakespeare is, the more we do it, the more proficient our students become, and the greater ability we have to make the stories clear for our audience. Once people come to a show, they're surprised by how accessible Shakespeare and his plots can be.

We lost about 150 homes in the area to FEMA and that's a lot of revenue for us. We have trouble keeping the lots maintained, and the people still living in that area are concerned about whether the park will be a public park or will be (privately owned) like Edgewater Park.

We live 200 yards from them now. My daughter's husband got a job in Tampa last summer and we decided to follow them here from Overland Park, Kansas. We're not too fond of the snow and remembered loving the sun down here when I coached in Fort Lauderdale.

It?s big knowing we kept the tradition going. It?s not just for the team that?s wrestling. It?s also for all the alumni from years past. They want to see us keep the tradition going that they started.

I was serving as the area representative to the Forest Park Civic Association before I had even moved into my house. One of the people I had contacted in the area to ask some questions when I was buying my house told me about the opportunity to be the area representative and I decided to do it.

It is very satisfying considering that we came in here in our first year and resurrected a great program with tradition that hadn't done well in the past few years.

We decided to put in a park and picnic area. It will accommodate about 500 people for groups. We wanted to find incredibly mature landscaping, installed in such a way that it will create a park-like setting that was consistent with all the other beautiful landscaping that exists around Dodger Stadium.
