He has to keep everyone on the same page and bring the team together because they are not playing for the guy on the back they are playing for the crest on the front. Since it is a high-profile team like ours, it is all about getting guys to buy in.

Playing at home was a tremendous boost. For 80 percent of our team, the Champions Challenge was their first high-profile tournament, and to play it in front of your home crowd is a real thrill. It was made more special by the way that people got in and supported their National Team. I know it really lifted the whole group throughout the tournament.

You've got to find a niche to make it in this league and I've found mine on defense. Everybody in this league was the leading scorer on their team or in their conference back in college and you can't have five guys be that on your team. Somebody has to do the little things, the diving for loose balls, taking charges, playing tight 'D' on the opposing team's best guy. That's what I do. That's what I bring to this team.

All the guys are doing what they need to for the team and that's fun to watch. They're playing for the name on the front of their jerseys, not the ones on the back.

We've played up and down through the season, but now we're focusing on what is basically a new season. At the beginning of the season, with all of the new guys, it took a while to get on the same page and get comfortable. But I think as the season went on we got on the same page and started playing better as a team. Lately, we've had a little more success as a team.

Everybody in this clubhouse has high expectations for themselves and the team. And we're all on the same page with those expectations — we're going from day one to playing well into October and playing in the World Series.

We've got a lot of young guys playing for jobs. There's a lot of pride in our organization, in the crest on our jersey. We want to make sure we don't embarrass the crest.

Our point guard position was really tremendous, especially in the second half. That's the kind of production we need at all our positions. Let's face it, we're the kind of team right now where we're playing eight guys (Friday). We need six out of eight (players) playing at a high level to beat a team like Sacramento.

(Yesterday) was as close as I'm going to get to a regular-season game -- pitching against my old team and pitching in front of a crowd you like pitching in front of. It's just funny, man. You look across the field and see all the guys you've been playing with the last few years. It's like playing against your neighbor in Little League or something. It's hard to keep a straight face.

I had all my pitches working and the adrenaline was definitely going. It was great playing on that field and I had to keep the fans out of my head. Having all the girls on the same page was great. This is exactly what I have been thinking about since last fall, getting the chance to go up against a team like Alabama. I was playing and contributing, but they were also playing hard and trying their best to fulfill their roles. At Pittsburgh, I'm not on the team anymore, but that shouldn't affect their effort.

It's like a road game for us. It's going to make it a lot of fun for us, playing a good team with a lot of high-profile players. Nobody expects us to win. That's motivation for us.

Over the last few games we've been playing an awful lot of young players. Tonight, the No. 1 team in the nation is playing the No. 2 team in the nation. The next best team is Penn State. So we ain't playing a dad-gum nobody. We're playing Penn State, No. 3 in the nation. Now if we can hang with those guys, maybe we've got the material to get back on up there where we belong.

These guys are playing really good right now. We gave up 16 points in the first quarter, but we were able to get them back in the 50s, so the defense played well. We're playing as a team and just playing good together right now.
