Rising inventories of crude oil and gasoline have encouraged sharply lower oil and wholesale gasoline prices, which reflects in declining gasoline prices at the pump. Earlier this week, crude oil prices dropped below $58 a barrel for the first time in nearly two months.

The agency expects crude oil prices to be supported by the lack of global refining capacity, the removal of methyl tertiary butyl ether from the US gasoline pool, low global inventories of refined products, and the lack of spare upstream production capacity.

These projects are aimed at avoiding possible oil supply interruptions and restraining global crude oil prices.

We might see some reflection on crude prices as well as gasoline prices going forward, but not by much. I hope that people do not have high hopes for much lower crude prices or gasoline prices, because that is not in the cards.

In this situation, where you have strong global growth, constraints on the supply side and a general decline in inventories, prices will continue higher.

Gasoline prices have begun their seasonal move higher. Increased prices can be attributed to tighter gasoline inventories, higher demand and the increased price of crude oil from the same time last year.

We have historic crude-oil inventories and close to record prices, which is a break from the normal pattern. You would expect high inventories to lead to low prices but that's not the case. There are obviously other things at work.

The market feels fairly comfortable with the crude it has at these prices. It's difficult for me to envision (the OPEC offer) having too much of an impact. Crude inventories here in the U.S. are looking pretty good.
