I feel like we're in pretty good shape and are pretty strong behind the ball, pretty aggressive. Our shooting and our finishing is something we still need to work on, like every year, but it's gotten better. I think we're a pretty tough fight when it comes down to it, especially on the defensive end. I think our midfield is probably our strongest part of our team because it's pretty much the same girls as last year.

I think our track record speaks for itself. We do a pretty good job of identifying young arms and developing them. A lot of different pitchers come through our program and develop into pro prospects. Most recently everybody hears about (2005 Big East Pitcher of the Year) Craig Hansen (the Boston Red Sox organization's top prospect).

My staff and I, we're proud of what we did this year with a young team. You can look at our record and yeah, it's not pretty. But as far as the direction the program was going, there's no doubt we were moving up.

The nice thing about this season is we don't have to remind them. They already had a pretty good idea. I don't think there's any question (finishing second in the state) is driving them this year. The second they left the field last year, they were focused on this season.

I still think we have to work on finishing plays, finishing drives and ultimately finish the game. Offensively, we came out and drove down to the 15 or 20, but we can't punch it in and that's a credit to the defense. They gave up some big chunks early but they got down there and bowed their neck and stuffed the offense pretty good.

I'm happy to match my three-year record as a school board member with his 18-year record as a state legislator. All you have to do is look at his Web site. He has no record to speak of. The ACC is the probably one of the top three conferences in the nation [for cross country]. The top teams are N.C. State, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Duke. Boston College might be all right in their first year in the conference. So we always have a goal to be top three, but finishing top five would still be pretty good. It is really competitive.
