Financials are picking up across the board, that bodes well for the market, ... Being such a big percentage of the indices, if people are getting behind financials late in the third and fourth quarter, that will carry the market positive in 2005.

The market is anticipating the end of the Fed tightening, so it's a very good time for financials. People are searching for the next hot front and we think financials are the place to go.

The financials have had a good run the past couple of days. The tax ruling (on income trusts) has got people thinking that there is some value in financials.

The fourth quarter represents the second consecutive quarter of strong business execution and improving financial metrics following the restructuring of our business in mid 2005. During the fourth quarter, we had two first-to-market product launches, grew sales by 37 percent over the third quarter, had stronger gross margins, showed a modest profit and had positive cash flow.

Well I think some of the more defensive issues would probably perform in line with the market. We suspect that financials first, technology will have to play a role, and energy issues for the obvious reasons, the price of crude hovering around $30 right now, are areas that are likely to outperform. But I think to be successful we have to have participation across the board. That goes back to breadth indicators being real laggard of the internal equation for many, many months. So they not necessarily lag the market, but perform in line across the board, is going to be an essential element.

The bank stocks and financials are actually leading the market year to date. I tell you six months ago it was a totally different picture. We were in the hole. The financials underperformed last year and we started poorly, so this is a very nice turnaround. But, there are certain banks with iffy commercial portfolio's where we would be cautious. There are some regional banks that we like, too. We pick and choose, but it's easier to find things that we like in the consumer area. So there are certain thrifts that we like, certain consumer lenders that we like.

Clearly there had been a fourth quarter bet that technology would outperform, but they disappointed and people ran for the exits. I would say financials also disappointed.
