Manny won't train me anymore,

Manny [Steward] won't train me anymore. He said he doesn't want me to get hurt. And that this is too much of a risk. Said he wants to remember me the way I was.

I have not spoken with Manny himself, but I have spoken with people who represent him. Coming to camp on March 1 does not bode well for Manny to be able to play. But Manny is eligible and obviously the Dominican team would love to have Manny play.

I ain't going to beat everybody. If I'm a pitcher, I would take no chance with Manny [ Ramirez ]. Manny is a box full of surprises. He's very excited right now. He's very into it right now. The danger he is right now, I don't see myself pitching to Manny.

There are a lot of other great players in the tournament of course in addition to Manny, which is one of the reasons Manny would probably want to play, with the talent at that level. But I haven't spoken with Manny himself, and, in fact, I think I spoke to one of his representatives as late as yesterday and he hasn't ruled out playing. What he decides is really ultimately going to be up to him though.

These older acts are the gravy train, but someday that train is not going to run anymore, and no one really knows what to do when they're gone. Of the young acts, you have someone like Coldplay who does quite well, but where will it be in 10 years? That's hard to say.

It was nice having them in the gym, but ... Manny was performing for them more than for me. I wanted him working on technique and so forth. ... They've respected it. They realize it's for his benefit and they want Manny to win.

This 'no trade' is probably the biggest thing the Red Sox ever did. There's no way we could survive without Manny for two months of a playoff run. With one swing of the bat, Manny makes a difference, just like he did today.
