The first Big East meeting I went to there was P.J. Carlesimo (Seton Hall), John Thompson (Georgetown), Louie Carnesecca (St. John's), Rick Pitino (Providence), Jim Boeheim, Jimmy O'Brien (Boston College) and Rollie Massimino (Villanova). The wins by Alex and John were really the story of the match. If they don't win, it's 3-3 going into doubles and they (East) are always known for having strong doubles players. Both Alex and John have been playing steady tennis recently and at No. 5 that's what you want.

I am trying to stress how great this win is with how St. John's has been the last few Big East games.

Everybody looks for John. Everybody respects John. I still depend on him today. When I need some information on something, I go to John Carlisle. Everybody in Greenville County comes to John Carlisle. Everybody in the state comes to John.

St. John's and their post players have had to battle in the Big East and go against size in the past. I definitely think both teams are athletic and get to the glass. That's going to be a huge key for the game.

St. John's is the sleeper team in the Big East. We knew we weren't going to come in here and win by 20. We saw what they did to Louisville and Pitt. They have three quick guards who made it difficult for us to get the ball inbounds at the end.

We couldn't open with a harder game. I think you can count on one hand the number of games that St. John's will have lost in the Big East in Queens in New York in the last 10 years.

So many people have approached me and said, 'Can I do a musical of John,' ... It's a very simple idea, you know - wow, a musical of John! But I've said no. This time, I said yes, because I liked the idea of having these different actors playing John. Because in the years after John's passing, John has transformed into something else. People in Asia think of him as their hero. People in Africa think of him as their hero. He was a hero for the whole world, and not just a white hero. We have the chance to show that the Big East is not a powder-puff conference. We really mean business. The Big East is here. We're going to be a powerhouse, and some national contenders are going to come out of the Big East in the future.
