Any facility that takes a sex offender is very conscious of the enforcement spotlight. They're not going to take any chances.

I definitely was more conscious of making sure I didn't take any chances on doing something that would set me back. I think the last two springs were kind of fluke-ish. At the same time, I'm more conscious of it, but I don't want to worry about it so much that I don't live a normal life.

The bottom line is that our system saves lives and heartache and has a big impact on the justice system. It's one solution to the sex offender problem that we've all been looking for. Not only does it protect society from the offender, but it helps the offender as well by providing additional motivation to stay out of any trouble.

Most communities are under the false impression that if a sex offender moves into the neighborhood, law enforcement would knock on their door, but that's just not the case.

We look at does a person have a prior sexual offense? Does the offender have a prior non-sexual record? Has that offender offended against a stranger. So, the relationship of the offender to the victim tells you something about the type of risk they pose.

It will be easier when we're out there trying to get a European carrier to explain we have the facility in place to handle them. If you have a facility where it takes two hours to get through, they've already had a poor experience when they get here.
