This is one of the best tracks in this area and we'd had a lot of interest in going with IMCA this season. We have open practices on Thursdays and a lot of the IMCA guys who came were asking us if we'd sanction.

Coleman was a great addition to the IMCA family of sponsors last season and will continue in that role this year. They were very active in attending IMCA events last year and I hope our members create an opportunity to talk with them throughout the 2006 season.

Economics was one reason we decided to sanction again. For the most part our cars have pretty much stayed IMCA legal but some of the stuff here was getting pricey. The change in the claim rule to include the swap option was another reason. The driver getting claimed will still go home with a motor if he chooses to.

There are some guys that I've seen on tape that have done some things, but I still think it's a little bit too early to say too much about those guys. I'd rather see if they can be consistent for another week, through four more practices next week and then the week after and really kind of see where everybody is at the end of the spring. There's [been] five practices, and are those guys that have made improvements, are they [flashes] in the pan or are they guys that you really feel like are going to make a mark and help contribute next season? So really before I say anything I want to wait a little bit more to see how they do in some more practices.

We must reiterate that the Principles are published as a discussion document and as an aide for clients and contractors alongside their in-house standard contracts and industry published standard contracts. Each IMCA member is, of course, free to negotiate their own terms, qualify such contracts and to make use of the Principles should it wish to do so in order to achieve a contract satisfactory to both parties.

The good thing is that we've had some real lively practices out here. Guys have been really competing and that's what you want to see as you get ready for the season.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

If we are informed that they are not in compliance then we will investigate and take the appropriate corrective action, ... The only sanction is that the contract would be suspended. That's the only sanction that the law provides.

The only possible sanction would be a cutoff of Title 1 funds, and that would be a very significant sanction.
