I'm just not comfortable ordsprog

I'm just not comfortable with him not getting at-bats right now. If you don't play him, you're not going to see his power. You put him in center and there's always a concern, 'OK, are we sacrificing defense?' Well, I don't know. But I'm going to get him out there in center field a little bit. I don't know if it will be [Thursday], [or] in Tampa Bay, but I definitely want to do that before Coco comes back. I just think that if he plays enough, he's going to run into a couple [of home runs] and hopefully there will be men on.

Yankee Stadium is real big in left-center field. He had no problems hitting home runs out of there. This guy has always had the power. When we made the deal, everybody kept saying Texas this and Texas that. The reality is, in his career, half of his home runs were on the road. That tells you that he has power regardless of the ballpark.

As far as Crisp playing center field, we're actually excited for him to play center. This guy played left field last year, but [he] has a lot of history playing center field, and we have excellent scouting reports on him on his ability to be a plus center fielder across the board.

I think Jim Edmonds plays center field somewhat like how I played center field, and I like to watch him play it.

Duke Snider (1926-)

Yeah, he's going to fit in extremely well. He's a great young man, he's going to bring a lot to the table. The fans are going to love him. He's a hard-hat guy. He's got all the skills out there. He's been getting better and better every year. He's getting better with age. Fans are going to grow to love Coco out there in center field. We all loved Johnny while he was there, but they're going to do the same thing with Coco because he's a special ballplayer and he plays hard.

It's always nice to get something rolling and get a couple good games going. The season's very early and I've got a lot more at-bats in front of me. I'm going to go through hot streaks and some cold streaks. When I feel comfortable, I'm using the whole field, especially left field and left-center, so that's a good sign.

It's hard to say what kind of power that he has when he played in Texas compared to playing in a regular ballpark. I knew he hit some home runs at Yankee Stadium and that's a big [left] center field. It just happened that we had more of a need in center field. We all knew 'X' can play. Certainly, this would have been the year that would have provided a great opportunity to play one of the corner positions. But in this outfield here, we thought it was more important to go get a guy who can play center field.

My team is the Red Sox. At center field there?s Coco Crisp, at right field is Manny Ramirez, at third is Mike Lowell, and at catcher there?s J.M.

You don't see a lot of home runs to center field there. He's going to get stronger, and he's as fast as anybody we have in the organization.

Not too many people can reach center field in that park. Not too many big men can [go] opposite field like that either. Forty-eight [the number of home runs Howard hit last season in the Minors] is a lot no matter where you hit them.

Our coaches have done a great job using what we have, and we have some speed on the outside, ... Coach Paterno said we were going to put the best players on the field. I've become a lot more comfortable under center, and the more games we play, the more comfortable I feel.

It's unfortunate Kearns got hurt, but I was able to fill-in and play some right field Thursday. And there I was in center (Friday).

He was probably the least lionized coming into this situation. All of a sudden, he works some great at-bats, plays a great center field.

When Jeremy got hurt and we were looking for someone to play center field, he entered the mix. I've seen nothing out there of him to make me think he can't play center field and play it well.
