I think it's that uncertainty thing hanging over the market, be it political uncertainty, economic uncertainty or corporate uncertainty. Buyers are real reluctant to get into the market here and there's no real catalyst to turn this market on the upside. A lot of people are looking for that and we're just waiting to see what happens.

They say the markets are driven by fear and greed. We're certainly not in the greed part of the equation anymore.

Obviously, there's quite a lot of concern about what's going on around the world. Greed has been replaced by fear. There's not much rationality in a greed environment and there's not much rationality in a fear environment.

They all look pretty brutal and very bear-market.

The major trend in the market over the last couple of weeks has been uncertainty. Uncertainty about the Fed, uncertainty about earnings, and we're seeing a continuation of that today.

Uncertainty and fear abound in this market, and thus outright short positions remain highly at risk.

This certainly highlights what the bulls have been trumpeting. It is not known whether any actual production will be affected. Uncertainty and fear abound in this market.

Not surprisingly, many of the entities at risk of potential downgrades were in the consumer discretionary domain (automotive, media and entertainment, consumer products, and retail/restaurants), where pressures have been building (owing to hurricane activity, higher energy prices, and growing uncertainty about labor market conditions) and momentum is expected to decelerate, Downgrade Potential Across Credit Grades And Sectors.
