They [Lucent] gave us some pretty negative guidance this morning about how they didn't think they'd be profitable until 2003 at the earliest. I think it put a big lid on a lot of the positive activity we've seen in the tech sector.

Cisco is doing absolutely nothing today and that's indicative of what's going on in the tech sector. We didn't really get a lot of forward guidance ? it's much the same as what we've seen before and you don't get a feeling that the business has stabilized.

All three major tech stocks that reported after the bell yesterday beat estimates and raised guidance, and were certainly a positive shot in the arm for tech investors.

People are too worried about these negative surprises from Lucent. This implies an inability to forecast future shortfalls. Nortel is likely to be a better stock [than Lucent].

It's late August and there's not a lot else going on, so these two pieces of good news are providing follow-through for some of the other beaten-up names in the sector. Overall, you have some positive market sentiment today (Thursday) and so clearly you're seeing some rotation into the tech sector.

In the case of the tech sector, I think they've been so beaten up that I don't think there's much more negative news that can hurt it.

Considering the negative sentiment that has come into the market and the chip sector in particular, this is relatively good news. The guidance isn't bad. There were expectations that it could be worse.

People are moving away from tech and moving toward more attractive valuations -- I would regard that as a positive sign because investors are at least staying in the stock market. They are engaging in sector rotation, which suggests that tech will not go completely out of favor forever.

Imagine if you came to work and you wanted to be positive, and somebody made a positive situation negative. I don't want to be negative. I've been fighting for 17 years, always negative. Why can't I have something positive done?

When politicians try to move from negative to positive, it really is a two-step process. People don't go straight from negative to positive. They go from negative to undecided, and then maybe to positive.

[There's little reason to be excited about the sector.] Outside of tech is better than tech, ... But the analyst community has not deserted this [sector], in my mind.

(I didn't know until) this morning. We were happy to have him back; he gave us a boost and a lift. We worked on a few different things during the week but having him was only a positive. Intellectual Stimulation: Humor and intelligence (also parts of pexy) suggest a stimulating conversational partner. Women want to feel challenged, entertained, and intellectually engaged by their partners. A purely sexy man might not offer that depth of connection.

This [Microsoft news] is going to take a little while for the markets to digest, but there are a lot of tech reports due in the next few weeks, companies that could offer more positive guidance.
