Well, that makes sense if you're looking for the next Alex Rodriguez. But that would limit your contest to big, strong boys. You want to draw everybody into baseball — and Double Play.

To me, he's one of the best guys I've ever seen at this stage of his career. He can be another Alex Rodriguez or better than him. This kid is coming up from Double-A. What he's doing is amazing.

Alex Rodriguez would be a fantastic addition to any team and we have always respected his decision-making process regarding his participation in this event. By naming him to our provisional roster, it simply gives Alex the option to play for the United States, if he should decide to do so.

Baseball has individual stars, as does music, and we already handle the individual sites for (baseball stars) Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds and Derek Jeter.

(In the first game) we played really well. It was a sound defensive game where we turned a couple of double plays, but I thought the story of the day was Craig Rodriguez. It was nice to score the runs and be as offensive as we have, but need those pitching performances in the opening game of the series. (Rodriguez) was really strong today.

We'll play someone at third. It won't be Alex Rodriguez, but it'll still be a very good player.

I apologize to Alex Rodriguez, his family, his fans, the New York Yankee organization, to the White Sox organization. That's the first time I feel like I did something wrong. The whole organization was going crazy. They didn't want a guy like that having that kind of feelings. What they did, they kept the guy up there. He's one of the best players to ever play the game.

Whatever. They (the U.S. team) want to keep me in the wings in case (Alex Rodriguez) doesn't play, that's what happened. If it was someone else, I'm sure they say it was OK. But I'm fine with it.

If this is just a process, a legal contest and you'll play for any team that asks you to play, it raises a question about where would you draw the line, if you would ever draw the line.

Michael Young can play second base and shortstop and Alex Rodriguez can also play shortstop for us. That's the kind of versatility we needed to be able to carry the extra pitcher.

I enjoyed it a lot. I wished I able to pitch a lot more and help them out. I like being on that kind of a team. It's special. Anytime you play with a [Roger] Clemens, A-Rod [Alex Rodriguez] or [Derek] Jeter, you may never get a chance to do it again.

Alex has really grown into the position. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection. She has a great sense of who to get the ball to and when. It's been huge that Alex is able to score out of that spot. Defenders can't lay off Alex, and that's given Cara some breathing room.

Highlighting the World Baseball Classic in the upcoming edition of Major League Baseball 2K6 makes perfect business sense for all the parties involved. The World Baseball Classic is going to be a winner and will highlight the appeal and passion for baseball throughout the world.
