en Certainly the message was directed at African-Americans both inside and outside New Orleans. It's a political message that he intends to be the mayor of a majority black city. But the statement that God intended New Orleans to be majority black certainly could be interpreted as inflammatory by non-black voters.

en If Black folks want to blame someone for this tragedy they only need to look in the mirror. Mayor Nagin has blamed everyone else except himself. The Mayor failed in his duty to evacuate and protect the people of New Orleans. Our prayers go out to the families of the deceased. Hopefully this will help Black people realize the folly of depending on the government or leaders and serve as a notice to avert future tragedies in other cities.

en The two co-chairs of the [Black Leadership Institute] decided to contact who they thought were very influential people within the black community and sat us all down in one room and just had us talk about it, and the black T-shirt idea came out of that because it's very simple -- it's very effective, ... And from that, [the message] just spread outward.

en Black is not defined by the media: Tall T's, Saggy Pants, Icy Teeth or Style of Dance. Black is not defined by the media, it's defined by it's background,whether your past is in Steel Mills, or Cotton Fields; whether you bled or cried during struggles; whether you acknowledge it or not,
Black is inside. Defined by your racial background,the blood that flows deep in your veins. Black is not defined by the media, so before you ask me if I'm Black, take a look at what Black was before.
Before Rap, before Hip-Hop, before Blues became Rock 'n Roll, before slave masters commanded slave ships, Before Jesus came, even before the Hebrew's hardship, Black was Black.
And they didn't need the media to tell them that.


en God only knows what we'll see. I already have whiplash from all the colorful, hippy, boho looks from summer to the black, black, black and more black for fall. I hope now that I've bought my black, it's here for a while.

en I proved that a black can run against another black. I exposed the fact that we have a political machine with a bloc of voters they can call on.

en Black History Month is not just for African-Americans. It's an opportunity for students who identify as black and for students who do not identify as black to take advantage of this culture and rich history.

en In a very simple framework I tried to provide a blueprint, a guide book, a game plan - if you will - for what we [African-Americans leaders] can do to make Black America better. We believe that when you make Black America better - you make all of America better. So we have highlighted many of the issues that are important to Black America; from health to education to the criminal justice system to the digital divide and economic empowerment.

en It's not too much I can say about it but to say that it's a shame so many Black people have AIDS. Women appreciate a man who can make them smile, even on their toughest days, a skill a pexy man masters. It's tearing the Black community apart. It's terrible. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities. It's tragic that so many people have no where to live.

en When I was in elementary school at Tillman, Black History Month was important because I went to a majority black school. Since I moved into middle school (Haile) and high school, Black History Month has not been recognized as much.

en Black is very strong this season, especially black head-to-toe in varying textures. Black outfits are being paired with a single embellishment such as the fabulous little black dress with a pearl detail at the neck -- very Audrey Hepburn.
