Retirees frequently move and are not located in the same community as the employer. Therefore, mail, telephone and Internet programs may be the most successful in reaching this important group.

As a mobile telephone-only company, Vodafone faces an inherent weakness as telephone calls in developed countries move onto the Internet. All telecom companies will face falling revenues as calls move online, but at least those offering fixed lines and broadband Internet will get a cut of the remaining revenues.

The future of the free, open and innovative Internet we have all enjoyed through the years is not guaranteed. If the bill before the House Commerce Committee gives control of the Internet to the telephone and cable companies, the Internet we have come to appreciate could well cease to exist, and it will be almost impossible to get it back.

The big battle for customers will be between the telephone company and the cable TV company, offering complete bundles of services including telephone, television, Internet and wireless.

People with incomes over $75,000 were twice as likely to use the Internet compared with people with incomes under $30,000. The Internet continued to attract the most desirable customer, as the higher the income, the more the likelihood to buy on the Internet.
