This is an annual event sponsored to help students realize the preparation and skills needed to obtain a job, and an opportunity to bring the community into the schools.

This is a big basketball community. Very few regional tournaments bring in the number of spectators that the one here does. It is a large event for here. All the participating schools bring large numbers of fans to our area. Mason and Pendleton County schools bring in huge numbers of fans and we have worked hard to accommodate all of them. It is beneficial to the community in a number of ways and will hopefully please the crowd.

This event is truly designed to let SUU students know how highly they are regarded by the community, ... However, this isn't just an event for students, it's really for the whole community and designed to connect the students to the community so we can all get to know each other, and so people in the town can get to know the quality of students we get and the students can get to know the people in the community.

We're proud to continue our great association with Mac Tools as the title sponsor for our biggest annual event. We realize this event generates a lot of excitement throughout the drag racing community and the world because of its rich history. This committee stresses the significance of being connected within the community in business. Many of today's businesses have community relations departments and do charitable work. This is great preparation for students planning to work in business, as it helps them to realize other business activities.

This is the first time that we did not meet our Annual Yearly Progress for students across the board, ... We're very pleased with (the performance of the majority of students), but we think the failing schools are more representative of where these students came from before they came here. We don't think its fair to label this school as failing.

I have the students for six hours a day. The community has them for 18 hours, plus prenatal and early childhood. I don't believe the schools create (the achievement gap), but our responsibility is not to add to it. We won't eliminate the gap until the community makes education a priority, but the schools can't wait for the community to do its part.

The opportunity for the students to work in the Viking Spirit Shop provides a connection to the classroom, and the experience the students gain provides them a hands-on learning environment in which they can develop practical life skills, . We extended the event into May this year so more schools could participate after the FCAT test time, and students do get community service hours. It's all about getting people aware that litter is a problem and that there is something we can do about it and get involved with yearly.

The growth accomplishes a parallel increase in students taking demanding courses such as pre-algebra, calculus and physics. It is important to remember that the best preparation for the SAT is the day to day work students do in schools.

Browse is a great way for students and parents to obtain a feel about what ULM is all about. The goal is to bring together as many areas of the campus to meet with prospective students so that they can develop a lasting relationship together.
