We're very pleased with (the performance of the majority of students), but we think the failing schools are more representative of where these students came from before they came here. We don't think its fair to label this school as failing.

I would love to keep every school open, but the reality is you can't keep entire schools open for a few students. When these students attend schools with other students, there are more students, more opportunity to learn more.

The staff and administration have put forth a great deal of time and effort into ensuring South Routt School District reaches the benchmarks prescribed for annual yearly progress, ... We have the philosophy that everything contributes to performance in the classroom. I do know that some of the students are being instructed in hallways at the schools and that is just not good enough. We have a classroom in New Albany that only has seven students in it. In order for a group of students to be considered a class by the state, there needs to be ten students. We will lose out on a lot of money if this problem is not rectified. We have to offer these students the best that we can afford.

School administrators are so concerned about discipline in school that they neglect the fundamental rights of students. Not only do students have a constitutional right to express themselves in the school so long as they're not disrupting the educational process, but schools ought to be encouraging students to express themselves.

While the ideals espoused in No Child Left Behind (NCLB) are admirable, the realities of the Bush plan are not, ... NCLB imposes rigid and expensive mandates on public schools. It judges adequate yearly progress using a one-size-fits-all formula, a measure that gives schools an incentive to lower testing standards in order to meet federal requirements and, sadly, to push out students that may bring down a school's average score.

Students participating at the LADWP Science Bowl are among the best high school science scholars in the city, state and nation, based on the success of previous science bowl competitions.
